I am SO sorry!

Hi All-

I just wanted to send out an apology for letting my blog fall off the end of the Earth! I got so busy that I forgot about it until now…2 days before I fly home. OOPS! Here’s a quick recent catch up.

When school ended on June 5, my friend Erin and I took a 9 day trip up the East Coast of the North Island…when we got back, it was time to prep for exams. At VUW, exams are spread throughout 3 weeks so I had mine on June 17, 27, and 29.  Now that I am finished, I am now officially a senior in college! Hurray!

I leave on July 2…and actually experience July 2 twice when I fly back in time! Twilight Zone much?

I absolutely loved my time here in New Zealand but I am incredibley excited to get home. I made so many friends and memories here and my time here will never be forgotten. Thank you for reading my blog (until I stopped blogging) and for staying in contact with me!

See you in AMERICA!

April 20, 2009

Today was our last day in Queenstown. We left in the morning by bus to head to Dunedin (pronounced Done-ee-din). It was not that long of a ride, but we all took naps because we had a lot to do in the next 2 days! When we got to Dunedin, we checked into our hostel and immediately went off on our adventures. Celia and Beth went to the Speight’s Brewery for a tour and Mary and I went to the Cadbury Chocolate Factory for an hour and a half long tour. Being in New Zealand has changed my view on chocolate. I used to like chocolate, but it wasn’t the first sweet that I went too. After being here for less then 4 months, I’m officially in love with chocolate and I am going to miss Cadbury so much when I get home…Hershey’s just doesn’ t match up. The tour was absolutely amazing…we got a TON of free candy and learned a bunch about the history of chocolate and Cadbury. The smell of the factory was mouthwatering and we got to see a chocolate waterfall at the very end of the tour. The factory uses the same ton of liquid chocolate for the waterfall for over a year’s time before they finally switch it. Ew!

That night, we walked around Dunedin…Mary and I made eggs and ham for dinner, and then we had a casual night. At this point in our trip, we were getting really exhausted from all the traveling and constant activities.

We had to wear hair nets...at least they gave us Chocolate Fish! (rasberry marshmallow covered in chocolate...shaped like a fish!)

I had a lazy morning today. I got some cold medicine and basically walked around Queenstown, did some souvenir shopping, and took some pictures. Nothing really exciting happened. In the afternoon, Beth and I were going on a jet boating ride on the Shotover River in Q-town. We had to wear big raincoats and life vests because we were bound to get wet. The ride was short, but it was super fun! The driver would go fast and then turn the boat 360 degrees around. Because it’s Autumn now, we got some great views of the countryside and the color changes of the trees.

April 18, 2009 (Pictures below are from Queenstown and this day)

Today was an early morning…my alarm went of at 5:50 and one hour later, we were waiting downtown for a coach bus to come pick us up for our 12-hour adventure in the Fjordland National Park and Milford Sound (home to the world-famous Kepler Track).  We boarded the Kiwi Discover bus and were soon on our way to the Park, which was about 2 hours away.  The drive there was absolutely gorgeous…we drove past The Remarkables, a cluster of mountains that were used as the Misty Mountains in the Lord of the Rings trilogy.  We stopped a few times to take pictures and get some morning tea but our first exciting stop was inside the Park at the Mirror Lakes.  The water is so smooth and clear that the mountains behind it reflect themselves into the water.  I snapped some pictures and then we were on our way into Milford Sound.

Our next adventure was a 1½ hour boat cruise throughout the Sound.  The bus was pretty big and once we boarded it, we were given a sandwich to eat, and then we started cruising!  This was by far my most favorite activity that we had done on our trip so far.  Milford was absolutely amazing…there were hundreds of waterfalls, seals, mountains, and so much more to see.  The Captain of the ship sailed us right into a waterfall so we got completely soaked!  I got some great pictures and had a lot of fun.

Our day was almost over, so we boarded the bus again and headed back to Queenstown.  Unfortunately I started feeling sick and by the time we got back to Bumbles, I knew that I had a cold. Boo. Oh well, I wasn’t going to let that keep me from having fun.  While my friends went out, I went to bed at 9:20…it’s no fun being sick.
